Mahomet Helping Hands
Mahomet Helping Hands is a non-profit organization that provides food and clothing assistance to people living within the Mahomet-Seymour school district. Monthly food giveaways are held for qualifying families and individuals in need of assistance. Emergency food assistance is also available in between scheduled food giveaways for households in extreme need. Donated adult and children clothing and small household items are always available for Helping Hands recipients to take for their families.
First Baptist provides ongoing support to Helping Hands by donating items to the food pantry and by assisting at the monthly food giveaways. A member of our church family, Ann Paul, is the Mahomet Helping Hands President.
Opportunities to Help
Every member of the community can be part of Helping Hands by doing one or more of the following:
- Give money - Send a check to Mahomet Helping Hands, P.O. Box 254, Mahomet, IL 61853. Helping Hands can purchase food from the Eastern Illinois Food Bank at very low prices.
- Drop off good, clean, seasonal clothing at the Helping Hands Center (203 Adams Street, Mahomet) on the second Saturday of each month from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon.
- Volunteer to work at the Helping Hands Center on the second Saturday of the month to help with accepting donations, and on the third Saturday of the month to help with food giveaways.
- First Baptist provides shampoo, dishwashing liquid and sugar each month for Helping Hands. You can drop off any of these items at the church during regular business hours and on Sunday mornings.
